When asked about the right camping backpack, most people who do not have any experience in camping will say that it is just a bag. The kind of back one chooses is not a small issue to people who have experience in camping. You will never be grateful for a good backpack until and unless you have bad experience with a bad one.

For instance, a trekker who went on a trip to Appalachians in the year 1994 went back home broken and bleeding from the heaviness of a bad backpack which caused his hips to be injured. Ten years later, he was a lot wiser and experienced than he was before; he took a better backpack and had a better and much more fun-filled experience.

Since we have decided the necessity of a good pack, given below are few tips that will help you choose a good backpack for your camping trip:

1. Recognize your requirements- The preferences of trekkers and campers are different. Some people take as minimum instruments as possible on their trips where as some take more.

Whatever that is that you may take with you, it will be a basis for what kind of backpack you will require. Assess your space requirements. In fact, most of the capable sales persons can assist you choose the right pack with the amount of space you need. While you are on this, try measuring the instrument that you may want to take for the longest trip that you intend to go.

2. Is the pack comfortable- When selecting a backpack, this is possibly the most essential point that you should keep in mind. Every person who intends to go camping would like to get a pack that can take most amount of weight with only a slight effort or difficulty.

When you have a good pack, it allocates the weight evenly and effectively. As a result, you do not face any problem while carrying it. In order to know how a pack can help in this, you will have to check out the pack yourself. Usually most camp stores have sand weights to put in the pack. You can examine how this pack can hold the weight and before deciding to buy it, make sure that the pack is comfortable.

The most important point that you should remember is that shoulder strap should carry about three-tenth of the weight where as the rest of the weight should be carried by the hips. While you are examining the pack, ensure that the shoulder straps are comfortable. It would be advisable to move about with the pack in order to determine how much mobility the pack can provide.

Usually most pack have sternum strap with them and these strap helps in stabilizing the pack. These straps are usually situated below to collar bone to guarantee comfort and steadiness.

Hip belts should not restrict your respiration nor should it be too broad that it hinders in the way of your steadiness.

The designs of the backpack will always be different and the backpack companies will always claim to have a new and improved pack for the purpose of camping. In order to know how good they are, just try them out.

3. Select your frame- You can choose between internal and external frames. The frames that are thinner and that hug your body closer are internal frames. These frames are perfect for hard paths as they are easily maneuvered and do not restrict the movements. However, these frames are a little difficult to load.

External frames are usually perfect for the beginners as they are not difficult to pack but they are a little stiff and may restrain the movements. This is the best kind of pack for children and the starters.

4. Miscellaneous- While you are buying your backpack, ask if the pack is well-suited to the different kinds of weather in order to protect your pack. You should also think about how the other attachments can be adjusted with it. Usually pack rings and snap-on(s) permit accessories to join together with the backpack.

Ultimately what matters the most is a good backpack. Selecting a good pack will certainly improve your camping experience. Remember to choose cautiously as your backpack will be your most trusted companion. Have a great trip!

Taking a camping trip can be a fun and affordable vacation if you enjoy the outdoors and nature. Camping offers your family the opportunity to explore the great outdoors and spend quality time together. There are no televisions, computers or other distractions to take away from family time.

State and national parks in the U.S. make camping easier with various facilities and maintained camp grounds. They have such services and amenities as garbage disposal, hot showers, guide maps, barbecue pits and first aid stations. Some have boat rentals, camper hookups and horseback riding. There are also things to keep the kids entertained and busy such as movie screenings, campfire sing-a-longs and other planned activities. Many have a convenience store which can come in handy if you forget something or need ice to fill up your cooler. Some also have cabins and hotels rooms for rent if you don’t want to rough it.

There are many state and national parks and there’s sure to be one in your home state within driving distance. Camping enthusiasts also fly or take long road trips to choice parks such as the Grand Canyon, Yosemite, and Yellowstone. Choosing your park is made easy with the use of the internet; most state parks have websites which have maps, amenities, fees and accommodations. Many also allow you to book campsites and check the weather report.

Once you’ve determined where you want to take your outdoor holiday it’s important to book a camping space. In the summer and during pubic work holidays parks can be booked months in advance so plan early. If you show up at the campground without a reservation you may be lucky but most times you’ll be turned away. If you want to avoid the crowds, visit parks during the week and go in the fall or spring when the weather is still nice but the kids are in school.

State parks charge entrance fees which go towards the upkeep of the park and its amenities and services. The charge is either per person or per vehicle and children under 16 years old are generally free. It is a nominal fee but if you’re planning on camping a lot, it may be cost effective to purchase a state park pass which usually pays for itself in just three or four visits. There are discounts available to seniors over the age of 62. National parks also offer an annual pass that provides access to all federal recreation sites that charge an entrance fee.

When determining where to set up camp, some prefer to be in a more secluded location. Keep in mind that the more secluded you are the farther away the amenities. Families usually don’t mind being in a more populated area so they are near the showers and restrooms and can socialize with fellow campers.

Camping is a fun way to enjoy the great outdoors and spend quality time with your friends and family. Make sure you plan ahead and book early especially during peak travel times.

A lot of people still think that all they need to do when planning a camping trip is find a good campsite and prepare all their gear. Don’t get me wrong; this is very important. But that’s not all there is to do when you’re making preparations for camping. As a matter of fact, I personally think that that’s only about half of it. The other half involves using a little bit of smarts and a lot of common sense. A lot of times, campers tend to find themselves in situations which could have been avoided if only they were paying attention.

When looking for a good campground, always keep in mind that not all campgrounds are appropriate for every camper. If you’re new to camping, for example, it’s always a good decision to pick a public camping spot that’s close to your home. Avoid going to far-off locations when you’re just starting out. Remember also that public campgrounds are run by a government agency; therefore regulations and services tend to be consistent and reliable. Privately-run camping sites, on the other hand, usually vary in their services, amenities, and policies. It’s also never a good idea to set up camp in an RV park when you’re in a tent. The noise from all the air-conditioning and power generators will keep most campers up during the night when they’re supposed to be sleeping.

Some people place reservations for a campground which they have never been to before. How can you be sure that it’s what you really want? Reservations can get lost, camping grounds can fill up, and you may find yourselves traveling over 1,000 miles to some place where you have no campsite. Be sure to get a confirmation by phone or email, and get all essential information about the campground, such as refund policies, check-in times, and rules for visitors.

When you arrive at the campground, the next important thing is to choose your campsite. As with real estate, it’s all about location. As much as possible, make sure that you pick one near the showers, toilets, lakes, ponds, or rivers, and playgrounds, if any. Some people even look for spots near garbage disposal areas, but I shall leave that option to your own preference. Some people like to be near certain areas, while others prefer to be as far away as possible. Now, when pitching your tent, the rule is to find a level spot that is high off the ground. This way any water from rains will drain away from your tent. Select a spot that is also far away from campfires or barbecue areas, and don’t aim your tent door to the East, unless you want to wake up with the sun shining in your face.

Always cook your food outdoors. Campgrounds usually have designated areas for this, so be sure you use them. As for eating, you can eat just about anywhere you like, except inside your tent. Why? The crumbs that will certainly fall from your plate will attract critters, and they will put holes in your tent just to get to the food. Speaking of which, I recommend storing all your food in tightly-closed containers, and if possible, just place them in your car’s trunk, rather than inside your tent. If you have a cooler and you want it close, place something heavy on top of the lid.

Mind the wildlife. You are temporarily staying at a place where bugs, birds, and animals have made it their home. Protect yourself by using bug repellents, and if you want to observe wildlife, do it from a safe distance. If you are in the woods, it’s nice to check yourself and your gear every now and then for ticks. And oh, you may find it very interesting to feed animals, but I wouldn’t recommend it. Lots of campers in the past have tried doing this, only to find the wildlife returning to their tent every so often to get fed and make a nuisance of themselves later on.

When it’s time to go, be sure to pack your equipment dry. Pick up all debris and trash scattered around your campsite and dispose of it properly. Always inform the campground attendant that you’re leaving and that your campsite is available, as a courtesy to him and to other campers who may be just arriving.
